As half of the FreshRev team is American, we recently hosted Thanksgiving dinner at our home. The modern day holiday celebrates the splendours of harvest and it marks the start of the festive period. The traditional Thanksgiving meal overlaps in many ways to your average Christmas dinner: turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy, sides of seasonal veggies, bread rolls – or Yorkshire Puddings if there’s a Yorkshireman in the house. The desserts are an even closer reflection on the seasons: Thanksgiving pies, such as pumpkin and apple, are fresh from harvest in November, while Christmas pudding is preserved by adding alcohol and mince pies are full of dried fruit and warming spices. We are excited to bring these flavours to the streets at markets in and around Edinburgh throughout December. Find us at one of the following or hire us to cater your Christmas lunch:
1st Tuesday: Edinburgh College Christmas Market, Sighthill Campus, 10am-330pm.
5th and 19th Saturdays: We are settling in nicely to our regular appearances at the Castle Terrace Farmers Market most Saturdays 9am-2pm. Read about the first birthday celebration we had there in October.
9th Wednesday: Special Christmas edition of the St. Andrews Night Market, Balgove Larder, 4-9pm!
12th Saturday: Join us for the launch of Edinburgh’s first street food yard: Christmas at The Pitt. There you’ll find the best street food the city has to offer, plenty of seasonal libations to keep you warm, and festive entertainment from 12-10pm.
Stay tuned for examples of our holiday menus! ‘Tis the season.
